Embracing a Culture:
Honoring Heritage
Our co-founder's love for Mexico and its culture began when she was 13 years old on her first trip to meet her grandmother living in Mexico. She experienced Mexico’s rich cultural customs through the Saturday markets in her family’s small town . As she came into adulthood, she was able to explore Mexico’s enchanting Pueblos Magicos or “Magic Towns” and immediately fell in love with the talent and artistry of its inhabitants. She slowly began to understand that the true magic of these places came from witnessing the extraordinary talent of the artisans. Each time she visited, she made sure to take a little piece of her ancestral homeland with her in the form of beaded or silver jewelry.
As an adult, our co-founder had the immense pleasure of showing her husband the same places, cultural sights, and experiences that made her fall in with her heritage.
One of the places that is closest to our co-founder’s heart is a bustling Magic Town in the mountains of Mexico called Taxco, which is where her mother grew up. There are many different types of artisans found in this uniquely colonial town and it was here that she found her favorite the artistic pieces of silver jewelry. She was able to take her husband there for the first time in 2018.
Coming back to the U.S., it occurred to Michelle that not many people knew the Mexico that she knew or was able to see the Mexico that she was able to see. So, with the help of her husband, Kein, she decided to launch La Flor Jewelry, to bring exciting, fresh, and unique jewlery to folks who may not have seen or know much about what can be found in Mexico.
And that is, in short, who we are here at La Flor Jewelry! We hope that you like what you see and that you are as taken with the artistry of Mexico as we are.
